Some facts about anesthesiology residents who started July 1, 2018:
- In 2009, there were 1,348 new anesthesiology residents starting July 1. In 2018, there will be 1,803. A 34% increase.
- In 2009, there were 1,110 M.D. residents entering, and that number is essentially the same this year with 1,121.
- Where is the difference?
- 101 to 297 D.O. residents entering the system. Much of this is due to the changes of the ACGME and AOA and the osteopathic and allopathic program lines merging.
- The number of international medical graduates (IMGs), both non-U.S. IMGs and U.S. IMGs, went from a total of 137 in 2009 to 385 in 2018.
